Halifax gardeners pressure nurseries to sell more native plants

Local environmentalists are trying to create a home in their back yards for native plants and the critters that come with them—but many are finding that the demand for these plants locally is exceeding the supply, as local nurseries mostly stock non-native, imported species.

LGBT community loses “gentle,” “passionate” activist to violence

An outpouring of support erupted in Halifax’s North End following the brutal death of Raymond Taavel—a well-respected and politically active member of Halifax’s LGBT community—to an act of street violence. Last night hundreds gathered in solidarity on Gottingen Street and at the Menz & Mollyz bar—an LGBT bar—for an emotional candlelit vigil.

Canadian Art: My take on 3x3x3′s triple effect

The scene opens on the stark white walls of an empty dance studio. A dancer’s body appears on the floor out of nowhere, its gender ambiguous. The dancer merges into another dancer, who seamlessly continues the gestures of the first. Slippery pools of colour emerge on the blank floor and walls: pixelated pastel blocks dart across the white paint, while shimmering fluorescent forms bleed together like spilled ink.
